I started planning early. Michael found the official red Underdog shirt online and we ordered it. SUCH a bargain at $20! :) I found puppy ears, got brown leggings to look like puppy legs, brown suede boots to look like puppy feet, and black costume makeup to paint the puppy nose. And Mary made the cape in a for-real drag out the sewing machine production. So, we were all set, right?
Halloween comes and we get her all ready. Adorable picture, huh? But then, she changed her mind. She decided as we were headed out the door to go trick-or-treating that she wanted to be a princess. (My internal screaming commenced.)
So, she went upstairs and got her raggedy, beat down, unraveling, dirty Belle dress that she wore last Halloween and has subsequently used to play "dress up". It looks like I run over it with my car. About a thousand times.
After posing a few questions, we quickly determined the reason for the sudden change of mind. Everyone else (Grandma, Mimi, Kiki, and myself) was dressed in some sort of "girly" costume, and she explained to us all that Underdog is a boy and he's not "pretty". I smiled and my initial frustration subsided and I decided that it didn't matter. At least I got a picture of her first.
